Wembdon’s accessible play equipment

The accessible trampoline in use

In 2019, as a key element of Wembdon Parish Council’s ‘Access for All’ programme, the Big Lottery funded new and very specialised play equipment for the park, which really had to be truly accessible to every child. The Parish Council worked closely with the local families and the manufacturer, G L Jones, who specialise in children’s play equipment, to ensure that the new trampoline and roundabout are fun to use, fully accessible and safe for everybody. Regular disabled play equipment will handle loads of 100kg, but the motorised wheelchairs need more than twice that capacity so stronger bearings and additional and stronger springs have been included in this new leading-edge design.

The new Play equipment was officially opened in May 2019 by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Mrs Annie Maw.
