The Neighbourhood Plan – What do we need to do?

  • Decide to have a Neighbourhood Plan
  • Set up a Steering Group to manage the process
  • Apply to Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) for Neighbourhood Status
  • Hold an initial public consultation to find out how you would like the village to develop
  • Collect ideas from all the households in the village, using a survey
  • Collect information from other interested people in the village
  • Collect evidence, for example on housing needs or traffic
  • Liaise with SDC’s Planning Department
  • Prepare a draft Plan
  • Hold a public consultation on the draft Plan, and revise the Plan as necessary
  • Send the final draft to SDC, who will check it and send it to an independent examiner
  • Once the Plan has been approved by the examiner, SDC will hold a referendum on the final version
  • If the Plan is agreed (by a simple majority), our Neighbourhood Plan will become part of the Local Plan
